How to Avoid Bad Home Remodeling Projects

Article

At Cornerstone, we often hear of past home remodeling projects gone wrong or stories from friends of friends that have had negative experiences with home remodeling.

Remodeling any part of a home is a long process that requires a mixture of collaboration, compromise, and communication. Unfortunately, there are typically many opportunities for things to go astray along the way.

We want each and every one of our clients to be 100% satisfied with every home remodeling project we complete. After stumbling upon an amazing article from Better Homes & Gardens that lists some tips for a successful remodeling project, we’ve decided to expand on some of the items.

Planning is Key

The first tip listed by Better Homes & Gardens simply says “plan ahead,” and we couldn’t’ agree more.

Proper planning for home remodeling is crucial. Remodeling your home is a major undertaking (whether you’re going the DIY route or hiring others) and can become expensive. When you plan ahead, you can easily avoid trivial problems that may have arisen later due to a lack of planning.

Be Prepared for Your Remodeling Project

Depending on the size and scope of your remodeling project, you may need to take extra steps to be sure you’re prepared. For example, if you’re having an entire kitchen remodel, you may want to set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in your household for when your contractor is working (just a few things like the coffeemaker and microwave). This is something that you may not think of until after the project begins, but keep things like this in mind to ensure that you’re not in the way of your contractor (or vice versa!).

Be Sure To Communicate With Your Contractor

As with any relationship, communication is key (especially with your remodeling contractor). When you communicate effectively from the start of your project, you can be sure that your remodeling contractor will provide you with the project you envision. If communication fails along the way, then you run the risk of being stuck with a project you dislike and your contractor is faced with not having provided top-notch service.

Choose the Right Fort Myers & Naples Home Remodeling Contractor

When choosing a home remodeling contractor, it’s important that you choose a company that will listen to your needs and work with you to get your goals accomplished. At Cornerstone, we approach each project differently. Everyone wants something different, and we treat it as such.

With over 16,000 clients served in the Southwest Florida community and 25 years of home remodeling experience, you can be sure that Cornerstone will provide you with a remodeling project that will make you say “WOW!”
