Kitchen Decisions | Stove Top: Gas or Electric

Article

With many great range options available, it can be a daunting task to narrow it down to choosing between gas and electric. Many homes we remodeled in Southwest Florida have had electric stovetops, and very few have had gas-though we are comfortable with both options. If you’re in the market for a new range, you need to ask yourself some questions before you buy.

  1. Is your kitchen currently plumbed for gas or electric?
  2. How often do you use your stovetop and are you in a hurry?
  3. What’s your cooking style?
  4. Do you like low maintenance stovetops?

We found an article in a recent issue of HGTV Magazine where they asked Professional, Drew Scott, his opinion on choosing between gas and electric. According to HGTV readers, 72% chose gas, while only 28% chose electric.

Kitchen Decisions from the Professionals

Drew Scott, from Property Brothers, stated that:

“Most homeowners, even ones who aren’t professionally trained chefs, think gas is superior to electric. I’m not convinced, especially with new electric induction cooktops that can bring a full pot of water to a boil in about a minute—far faster than gas. I think this one is a toss-up!”

We agree with Drew Scott, electric induction has taken on a whole new meaning of a life-changing stove. Induction heating has a variety of benefits; one in particular is that it is considered “safer”. Induction causes the vessel to become heated, and so when the vessel is removed, the zone is no longer hot enough to cause harm. Induction stovetops are also easy to clean, the flat ceramic-glass surface is easy to maintain. Many professional chefs have already changed over from gas to using electric induction!
