Should You Stay or Go? What to Consider When Living in Your Home During a Remodel

Article

If you’ve ever had your home remodeled or know someone who has, you know the amount of planning that goes into it all. If you’re about to welcome your local home remodeling contractor into your home for a big remodel project, you might be considering whether or not to stay in your home during this time. While we can’t make that final decision for you, we always try to help our clients in any way we can. Here, we’ll point out some of the considerations you might want to make when it comes to deciding whether or not to stay in your home during your remodel.

#1: Relocation Costs

Your home remodeling project is a big investment. If you don’t have nearby friends/relatives to stay with during your remodel, you may be looking at significant costs to relocate to a hotel. An additional, non-monetary expense is the amount of time and frustration you may deal with in relocating.

#2: Progress Monitoring

Should you decide to stay in your home during your remodel, one advantage you will have is to physically see the progress being made. Should any issues arise during the project, you’ll be right there to address them (saving you time and money).

#3: Dust & Messiness

As with any construction project, you can expect your home to get very dusty and messy during your remodel. Should you decide to stay in your home during this time, this is an important consideration. If you’re able to put up with the dust and mess, staying in your home may not be a problem.
